Sew Um Yea!

Well, I said I would keep everyone updated on the Pleasure Island Fresh Market adventure.  We got accepted with enough time to get organized, which was a relief.  It was a little chilly during set up, we were just across from the Winner Queen at the Carolina Beach Yacht Basin.  Overall the weather was gorgeous, bringing out a good number of patrons.  Brandy's crochet hats with holes for pony tails were a huge hit.  I received enthusiastic comments on my upcycled denim aprons, which tickled me to pieces.  A sausage biscuit, lots of laughter and few sales later it was time to break down.   Bummed you missed us?  You should be, the entertainment value that Brandy and I provide is worth the trip.  Yea, we crack ourselves up.  If you feel like a unique holiday shopping experience,  we will be back next weekend, December 3rd, from eight till one.  Its the last market of the season so come get your handmade Christmas gifts, baked goods or just stretch your legs.  Want to know more you can visit the markets web site here.  Hope to see you there.

Basic Bread Machine White Bread

With the holidays approaching everyone needs a good simple white bread recipe.  This bread bakes up with a crispy light brown crust, and is soft a airy on the inside.  I love using my bread machine to bake bread because its so easy and has very little hands on time.  Plus, the whole house smells delicious for hours.   

1 1/3 Cup of water
1/4 cup of unsalted butter
1 1/3 tablespoon of sugar
2 teaspoons of salt (less if you aren't using unsalted butter)
3 2/3 cup of bread flour
2 1/2 teaspoons yeast (one packet usually)


My bread machine is liquids first (most of the newer ones are) so this is my typical preparation.  Using a fork I sift all the dry ingredients together, less the yeast, and set it aside.  Cut the butter into two chunks.  Place warm water into the bottom of the bread machine.  Add 1 piece of butter, half the dry stuff, the last of the butter topped with the last of the dry stuff.  I make a little well in the flour, pour the yeast in it and hit start.  I use the "white bread" setting and it comes out great!

Tips:
Let the butter warm up a little, yeast doesnt like cold things and it will work into the flour better.
Make sure the water is warm per the instructions on the back of the yeast packet.  I'm kinda particular and double check with a thermometer. 
The little well in the flour keeps the yeast from getting stuck to the side of the baker.

This bread makes the best french toast ever!  It also make fantastic homemade croutons and garlic cheese toast.
